HOUSEMAN.- At his home in Mt. Pleasant township, Saturday, November 25, 1893, of pneumonia, Mr. James Houseman, aged 68 years, 7 months and 18 days.

James Houseman was born April 7, 1825, in Montgomery county, N.Y., and his early years were spent near Oneida. He was a direct descendant of one of the oldest families in that State, his forefathers being among the first settlers of New Amsterdam. He was reared in the vocation of a farmer which calling he always followed. He came to Whiteside county, Ill. in 1856. On June 10th of the same year he was married to Elizabeth Van Wagner. Five children - three sons and two daughters were born to them. - Emmett P., Nora, Edgar M., Arthur and Emma A. Mr. Houseman was a quiet, unobtrusive man and citizen. In his old New York home he was a schoolmate and associate of P. D. Armour and was always welcomed upon his occasional visits to Chicago by his old friend. The funeral services were held on Tuesday at the family residence, Rev. J. A. J. Whipple conducting the services. Interment took place in Grove Hill Cemetery.
