Anabel Williams Speight, 79, of Oakboro passed away November 18, 2021 in her home.

Her funeral service will be 4 PM Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Big Lick Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Springer, Rev. Shirley Hamilton, Rev. Jesse Herring, Rev. Jordan Caddell and Rev. Shannon Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle on Monday evening from 6 until 8 PM.

Born September 11, 1942 in Oakboro, NC she was the daughter of the late Claud Williams and Villi Anne Little Williams.

She was a member of Big Lick Baptist Church and was a retired school teacher with the Stanly County Schools. She was active in leading the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at West Stanly High School for 40 years. She was on the board of directors of the Oakboro Museum and was inducted in the Dixie Youth Girls Softball Hall of Fame and started the very first fast-pitch softball team in Stanly County. She was awarded Teacher of the Year and Coach of the Year for the Rocky River Conference.

Mrs. Speight is survived by her husband of 61 years, James Edward Speight Sr. of the home. Other survivors include sons James E. "Chip" Speight (Amber) of Oakboro, Bryan Evans Speight (Candra) of Edwardsville, IL, sister Loudivene Eubanks of Oakboro, 7 grandchildren: Trey Speight, Dalton Speight, Drew Speight, Kendyl Speight, Jayde Speight, Adelyn Speight, and Carissa Speight. A sister Gwendola Williams Willis Fowler preceded her in death.
