The people of Ashland were shocked to learn of the tragic death of Walter McKay which occurred Saturday forenoon. Mr. McKay was employed by the town hauling gravel and was coming from the pit near Sheridan when he was struck by the morning express on the crossing on the Sheridan road. His death was almost instant and his truck was completely demolished.
Mr. McKay is survived by his widow, two brothers, Ira, of this town; and George of Los Angeles, Calif.; six daughters, Mrs. Ruth Farley of Presque Isle; Mrs. Hazel Sweezey of So. Braintree, Mass.; Mrs. Barbara Corson of Raymond, N.H., Mrs. Annie McLeod of Cambridge, Mass.; Mrs. Lewis Tyrill of Portland, and Pauline at home; also four sons, Charles of Ashland; Maurice of Pittsfield, Mass.; Allen and Gerry at home.
