Hazel was born to Arthur and Ida Hammett. She married John Cecil Jernigan on November 14, 1936. He passed away Feb. 18, 1969. They had nine children. She was a nurse's aide and worked for Highland General Hospital for many years, retiring in 1973.She lived in Lefors since 1951 and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Clarice Carey and Joyce Collins, 2 sons Billy C. Jernigan and Joe W. Jernigan.
