Jennifer Sue Johnson Hawes, age 73, of Effingham and formerly of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 2:10 PM – Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, Illinois.

Jennifer was born on August 6, 1948, in Effingham, Illinois, the daughter of Lon and May (Newkirk) Loy. She married Merrill Dean Johnson on October 22, 1965, in Newton, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on August 1, 1985.

Jennifer worked as a caregiver for over 20 years and at United Technologies in Newton for a few years.

Jennifer was a member of the Central Christian Church in Newton. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafting and gardening.

Jennifer took pride in caring of her granddaughter Alexis, and was dedicated to her family.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter-in-law Laura Johnson on November 8, 2021.

Burial will be in the Trexler Cemetery in rural Newton, Illinois.
