Lydia Hendee Sparhawk
Lydia Ann Hendee was born April 5, 1931, in Pittsford, Rutland County, Vermont. She was the daughter of Germain Franklin Hendee and Sarah Rosette Jones Hendee of Pittsford. She was one of a family of 10 children and grew up in Pittsford.
On June 18, 1867, she married Dr. George Enos Ebenezer Sparhawk of Gaysville. The widower was the son of the Rev. Samuel Sparhawk, and Laura Ann Fitts Sparhawk. They were married in Pittsford by the bridegroom's father, Rev. Samuel Sparhawk, a Congregational minister.
They had two children, Dr. Sam Sparhawk (1869-1925) and Fred Sparhawk (1870-1879), who died at the age of 9.
The family resided in Gaysville until 1878 when they moved to Burlington where her husband soon opened the Sparhawk Sanitarium.
After the death of her husband in 1906, she lived four more years. She died November 24, 1910, at her home on Bank Street in Burlington at the age of 79. She had been ill for three months, the result of a broken hip. Following a funeral, burial was in the Greenmount Cemetery in Burlington.
