Sylvester J. Karthaus, 81, of Calvin Manor, 4210 Hickman Road, died of a heart ailment Monday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
No services are planned and the body will be cremated.
Mr. Karthaus was born in Humphrey, Neb. He lived in Des Moines many years and was a retired railroad worker.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Boiko of Casa Grande, Ariz.; a brother, C. P. of Boston, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
Dunn's Funeral Home on Grand Avenue is in charge of arrangements.
