Ricky Glenn McDowra was born on March 19, 1956 in Paris, Texas to Cynthia and Jerald McDowra; he departed on November 16, 2021 in Waxahachie, Texas. Ricky married Kathy Ann Kohs and the couple had three children: Wesley, Haley and Lindsey. After the passing of Kathy, he later married Denise Jan Chovanetz. He is remembered as a supportive father, and "Pappy" to all his grandchildren, fervently involved in all of their activities. Mr. McDowra graduated from Justin F. Kimball High School in Dallas, Texas, in 1974, where he honed his athleticism on the football and basketball teams. Ricky excelled in the amateur boxing ring, earning the title of Golden Gloves Boxer. These accomplishments illustrated his hard-working nature. That attribute was further seen as the long-time business owner of Rick's Custom Fences. Ricky enjoyed the outdoors, spending time golfing and fishing. He was entertained by the casino and horse races. He had a sporting nature and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. Ricky loved all sports. He also loved western movies and listening to the music of Earl Thomas Conley.
He is survived his children, Wesley Garcia and wife Leah; Haley Hayle and husband Ben; Lindsey McDowra and fiancé Jordan; stepsons, Tanner West and Chad West; grandchildren Ashton Wright; Gracie Garcia; Brady Hayle and Cody Hayle; step grandchildren, Peyton; Bryn and Madyx; brothers Steve McDowra; Kevin McDowra and wife Cindy; sisters Pam Poovey and Erik; Michelle Simpson and husband Walter as well as numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Jerald and Cynthia McDowra, wives Kathy McDowra and Denise McDowra; as well as both sets of grandparents.
Services to celebrate Ricky's life were held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel, 511 W. Main Street, Waxahachie, Texas 75165
