Floyd W. Adkins, 81, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at Hancock Regional Hospice. He was born Jan. 17, 1933, in Ashland, Kentucky, the son of Joe and Aileen (Roberts) Adkins. He married Patricia (Dishman) on June 17, 1950, in Cambridge City, Indiana.
He worked for Western Electric for 35 years and retired as a supervisor. Mr. Adkins was a member of Greenfield Country Club and Cypress Creek Golf Club. He loved golfing and even made a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed coaching sports, refereeing and umpiring games and was a local table tennis champion.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Patricia (Dishman) Adkins of Greenfield; three sons, Mark (Glenda) Adkins, Michael (Candy) Adkins, and Brian (Arlene) Adkins all of Greenfield; sister, Wilma Phares of Mohawk, Indiana; 6 grandchildren, Angie Adkins, Krystal Zeigler, Alicia Pierce, Mike Adkins, Brad Adkins, and Katie Graham; seven great-grandchildren, Payton, Jocelyn, Kaitlyn, Kameron, Ethan, Maddie and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Aileen (Roberts) Adkins; sister, Mary Jo Leary; brother-in-law, Dean Leary; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Phares.
Memorial visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, also at the mortuary. Pastor Dave Galbraith will be officiating.
