Josephine Davis was the daughter of Peter Davis and his wife, Emeline. She was born in what was then Princess Anne County, Virginia (now city of Virginia Beach). She died in the Back Bay area of Princess Anne County, Virginia. She was married to Charles Thomas Moore in 1885.

WILLIAMSON, all of Princess Anne County and Mrs. J.W. HENLEY of Norfolk; 2 grandchildren, ALVAH M. HENLEY SR of Los Angeles, California and HAROLD W. HENLEY of Norfolk and 2 great grandchildren, KATHY HENLEY and ALVAH HENLEY JR, both of Los Angeles, California. She was a lifelong resident of Princess Anne County. The family will assemble at her residence in Back Bay. The body will be taken from the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home to Charity Methodist Church, of which she was a member, for funeral services Friday, February 20, 1953 at 3:00 pm by the Rev R.A. CRAIG, pastor. The body will be at the Church an hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Church cemetery. Pallbearers: WELTON G. BONNEY, IRVIN L. VAUGHAN, W. ELIOTTE WILLIAMSON, ANDREW W. LOVITT, WRENSEY L. EWELL and RUSSELL F. HARRISON. "
