LEXINGTON: It was George Washington who said "I had rather be on my farm than be emperor of the world" but it might as well have been Dale Heston. When he and his young wife Mary moved to their Morrow County farm near Lexington in 1961, they little knew it would be their home - for fifty years.

A man who knew a hard days work, Dale passed away Thursday November 11, 2010. He was 74.

Born July 15, 1936 in Mansfield to Earl D. and Beryle (Bachelder) Heston, and was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1954. That year he entered the U.S. Marine Corps, and served three years in Korea.

On July 17, 1960 he was married to Mary Bell Kurtz, who preceded him in death on February 29, 2004.

Dale also worked as a machinist in the tool room with General Motors, retiring in 1998 with more than 16 years of service. From 1997 to 2001 he operated Der Milch Haus, a milk transfer station for Amish dairy farmers.

He was a member of Lexington Church of Christ and the UAW.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Micheal & Michelle Heston of Morrow County, Jeffrey & Dolly Heston of Clifton, Karen & Paul Speckman of Uniontown; grandchildren, Gilbert M. Frontz, Stephanie Lynne Heston, Shane Randall Caldwell, Ashley Rae Speckman and Courtney Nicole Speckman; two great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Garry & Cheryl Heston of Mansfield; a sister, Carol Heston of Mansfield; sister-in-law, Charlotte Heston of Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Heston.

The Heston family will receive friends Sunday, November 14, 2010 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where his funeral service will immediately follow at 5 p.m. Pastor Tj Waters will officiate. Memorial contributions to the Mansfield Salvation Army may be made at the funeral home.

A service of committal will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. in Lexington Cemetery with military honors provided by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.

Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the Heston family, and private condolences to them may be made online at: www.snyderfuneralhomes.com
