Nelson Martin Bell, 2205 Twelfth Street, Rock Island, a veteran of the Civil War and a resident of Rock Island for the last eighteen years, died at St. Anthony's Hospital, Rock Island. He was 85 years old.

Mr Bell served in the Civil War as a member of Company C, 33rd Ohio Volunteers. He enlisted while a resident of Ohio and served during the entire war. For many years he resided in Chillicothe, Ill prior to moving to Rock Island in 1908. He was a blacksmith and was last employed at the Velle plant in Moline, retiring about 15 years ago.

He was born in Richmondale, Rose County, Illinois April 25, 1841, where he was reared and educated. After his discharge from the Union army he married Miss Mary E King of Chillicothe, Ill who preceded him in death thirty-six years ago. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving are four daughters: Mrs Alice Gippert, Rock Island; Mrs. Pearl Christopher, Coal Valley; Mrs. Charles Walker, Wyoming, Ill; Mrs. Ada Bowman, Council Bluffs, Ia; and one son, Lyell Bell of Chicago. Twenty-nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren also survive.
