Dorothy E. Hood Hurlbrink Wooden, 80, formerly of Broomall and Newton Square, a retired insurance underwriter who traced her ancestry to pre-Revolutionary days, died Sunday at Cooper Medical Center in Camden.
Mrs. Wooden was born in Norristown and educated at schools in the Philadelphia suburbs.
She had lived in Broomall from 1955 until 1987 and in Newton Square, Barbados and Africa since then.
"She was always very smart and had her faculties to the end," said a daughter, Freda C. Dexter.
Mrs. Wooden had been an underwriter for more than 20 years for General Accident and then United National Insurance Co. in Philadelphia.
A world traveler, Mrs. Wooden had lived with another daughter, Natalie H Oliver, in Barbados for two years and in Africa for three years.
Mrs. Wooden was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and traced her ancestry back to Daniel Yost, who lived in Whitpain Township, Montgomery County, in 1736.
She was a past president of the Senior Citizens Activity Center in Delaware County and a member of Marple Presbyterian Church in Broomall for many years.
Her husband of 15 years, William Hurlbrink, died in 1953. She later was married for 23 years to Charles Wooden, who died in 1978.
Besides her daughters, Mrs. Wooden is survived by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Frank C. Videon Funeral Home, Broomall. Burial will be in Lower Providence Presbyterian Cemetery.
