Frances Louise Hess, 98, of Hutchinson, died November 5, 2021, at Hospice House. She was born October 15, 1923, near Langdon, one of nine children of Clifford and Agnes (McAtee) Gadbury.

Frances was a homemaker. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, and raising flowers – especially irises. Frances was a member of Sylvia United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women for many years, before joining Turon Community Church.

On November 7, 1942, she married James L. Hess, in Lyons. He died April 24, 2006.

Survivors include: her daughter, Bonnie Ruebke and husband Herb of Hutchinson; grandchildren, James Tylicki and wife Rebecca of Sylvia, Jonathan Hess and wife Michelle of Hutchinson, Jason Hess and wife Denise of Nickerson; step-grandchildren, Troy Ruebke and wife Joanie of Manhattan, Brent Ruebke and wife Peggy of Nickerson; and numerous extended family members.

Frances was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, James; son, Steven L. Hess; and her eight siblings.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life gathering will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Elliott Chapel. Private family burial will take place in Sylvia Cemetery at a later date. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday–Friday until the day of the service.

Memorials are suggested to Turon Community Church or Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
