Joe Charles Brown, 62, of Salem, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998. He was born on July 7, 1936 in West Virginia.
He was co-owner of Brown and Carter and Brown and Son, retiring after 38 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia M. Brown; children and spouses, Anita and Kenneth Hines of West Virginia, Charles and Debra Brown of Salem, Michael C. Elmore of Roanoke, Patricia E. Collins of Salem; eight grandchildren, Austin C. Brown, Bailey M. Brown, Victoria Ogle, Forrest Hines, Michael Elmore, Jr., Samantha Elmore, Ashlin Collins, Alisha Collins; mother, Catherine W. Brown of West Virginia; sisters, Ruth E. Brown of Roanoke, Carolyn B. Walker of West Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 1998 at Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Robin Colwell officiating. The interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Oakey's North Chapel.
