Dunlap Castle, Ph. D., was the son of Percy V. Castle and Jessie Dunlap. He is with his parents in the US census records for 1900-1920.

He attended the University of Chicago and Dartmouth College. He was a historian for the USAF.

According to an article published on 4 Jan 1921 in The Pantograph (Bloomington, IL), Dunlap Castle married Fern Wagner on 28 Dec 1920 in Peoria, Peoria, IL. This marriage ended quickly in divorce, but they had a child, Dunlap (1923-2006). After the divorce, Fern remarried, and her new husband adopted Dunlap, who changed his name to Dunlap Castle Shannon.

According to the 1930 US census record, he married a woman named Alva when he was 32, i.e., in 1929. Nothing is known about Alva, and this marriage ended quickly.

According to an article published on 16 Nov 1935 in the Santa Cruz Evening News (Santa Cruz, CA), Evelyn Hohenshell and Dunlap Castle married on 16 Nov 1935 at Temple Methodist Church in San Francisco, San Francisco, CA.
