Richard Scratch Harrison Inman Jr., 85, of Flint Street, in Waynesville, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at Skyland Care Center in Sylva. He was born in Haywood County on Nov. 30, 1922, to the late Richard Harrison Inman Sr. and Jessie Franklin Inman. He worked as an assistant superintendent for 22 years at A. C. Lawrence Tannery and later retired from Dayco where he was a supervisor. He served in the U. S. Marines during WW II as an Aerial Gunner attaining the Rank of SGT. He loved to garden and enjoyed playing football. He was the captain of the Waynesville Township High School football team in 1942. He was a member of Hazelwood Presbyterian Church and an honorary member of Ninevah Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda Teague Inman; brothers, Gilbert, Paul and Ernest Inman; and a sister, Myrtle Hightower.

He is survived by his daughter, Gwendolyn and her husband, Tommy Parker, of Canton; two grandsons, Chad Parker of Asheville and Brett Parker of Waynesville; and a special niece, Eva Hightower Robinson of Waynesville.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Leslie officiating. The VFW and American Legion Posts will provide military honors. Chad Parker, Larry Inman, Larry Gordon, Steve Sales, Rob Weed and Bob Daniel will serve as pallbearers.
