According to her obituary published on Tuesday, July 12, 1966 in the Aberdeen American News, Aberdeen, South Dakota, Ruth was born on July 10, 1885 in Livingston County, Illinois and died July 10, 1966 in Redfield, Spink County. South Dakota. A similar obituary was also published on Tuesday, July 12, 1966 in the Huron Daily Plainsman, Huron, South Dakota. The Social Security Death Index (SSDI) also lists her birth date as July 10, 1885 but shows a death date of August 15, 1966; the SSDI date is not correct as her death was published in two different newspapers more than a month earlier.

She married Fred Maxson on February 15, 1904 at Saunemin, Livingston County, Illinois. They moved to South Dakota in 1907.

She was survived by her brother, Fred E. Bacon of Northville.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one sister, one half-brother and one half-sister.

She was buried at Fairview Cemetery on July 13, 1966
