Gladys was born in Charlotte on February 4, 1931, the daughter of John and Margaret Lingle Sanders. Soon after graduating from Thomasboro High School, Gladys met George Harold Hudson on a blind date, and on August 15, 1949, they were married in Charlotte. Gladys went to work for commercial bakeries, including Lance (where she actually hand packed cookies as the automation age was just coming in), Keebler and Jack's Cookies, where she was a shift supervisor. When she was not working, Gladys enjoyed singing, especially church hymns; reading Harlequin romance novels and she was a big fan of the bookmobile. Most of all, she loved people. Gladys was always aware of other's needs and she was a caretaker for many people. She was a "mother" to all whether you were her child or not, and she especially loved the time spent with her grandchildren.
Gladys is survived by her children: Mary (husband Wayne) Davis of Charlotte, and Joann (husband Jeff) Mullinax of Concord, NC; her grandchildren: Nichole (husband Bryan) Krieger of Clemson, SC, Arthur Kyle Davis of Charlotte, Phillip Mullinax of Concord, and Angela Mullinax of Concord; and two great grandchildren: Gwendolyn Krieger and Alyssa Davis. Gladys is further survived by two sisters: Alice Sanders and Margaret Jo Wiley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George.
Gladys' family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. A service celebrating the life, love and blessing of Gladys will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 5, in the funeral home chapel, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until the time of service. Following the service, Gladys will be taken in formal procession to her final place of rest at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, 1504 W Sugar Creed Road, Charlotte, NC.
