Anchorage resident Danny Cox, 57, died Jan. 6, 2006, at Providence Alaska Medical Center of cancer. A funeral was held at Kehl's Forest Lawn Chapel. Chaplain Jerry Norman officiated.
Mr. Cox was born Oct. 16, 1948, in Dyess, Ark. He served in the Army from December 1965 to August 1968 and from December 1970 to December 1974. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in Vietnam from August 1967 to August 1968. After his discharge from the Army in 1974, Mr. Cox found his home in Anchorage. In Alaska, he enjoyed many things, including flying his airplane, sports and riding his motorcycle. His family said: "He will be greatly missed. He had a great sense of humor; we will miss his laugh and his jokes. He enjoyed flying whenever he had a chance. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially football and baseball. He was a big fan of the Seattle teams. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends."
Mr. Cox is survived by his wife, Irma Cox of Alaska; son, Jason Cox of Alaska; mother, Opal Gilchrist of Killeen, Texas; father and stepmother, Cohen and Ruth Cox of Hemet, Calif.; cousin, Barbara Snodgras of Memphis, Tenn.; stepbrothers, Clancy Priest of Oakland, Calif., Charles West of Forrest, N.C., and Mike of Indiana; great-grandmother, Opal Beasley of Marion, Ark.; many aunts, uncles and cousins from Arkansas; relatives from Harlingen, Texas; and aunt and uncle from California. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Cox. Memorial contributions and letters of condolences may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1057 W. Update, Mr. Cox was disinterred in 2013 from Angelus, cremated and taken by family to Texas in 2013.
