Civil War Veteran Dies
(Special Dispatch to The Journal.)

Forest Grove, Or., Sept. 9. -- George W. Haydon, aged 82 years, and a veteran of the Civil and Oregon Indian wars, died suddenly at his home near Thatcher, this county, Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Haydon was born in Boone county, Missouri, and crossed the plains in the early fifties. He served through the wars with the Indians in Oregon Territory, and at the outbreak of the Civil war offered his services to the union, his terms of service in both wars amounting to seven years' time. He had lived in the Thatcher section for more than 25 years, where he followed the occupation of farming. Mr. Haydon is survived by his widow and one son, Allen Haydon, and an adopted daughter, Miss Iantha Haydon, of Thatcher. James A. Haydon, superintendent of the east side city barns, Portland, is a nephew. Funeral services were held today with interment in the Union cemetery.
