Mrs. Judy Ann Cardinal Basham, age 73, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on April 17, 1948 in Madison, Indiana. She was the youngest daughter of the late Lawrence "Bud" and Mabel Marie Martin Cardinal. She grew up in Dupont, Indiana and her fondness for the small, rural community never diminished although she acquired new addresses later in life. Judy always considered herself a Dupont Hornet in heart. She graduated from Madison Consolidated High School in 1966, the first graduation to reflect the consolidation of Madison and Dupont schools. She was raised in the Dupont United Methodist Church and was later baptized at the North Madison Christian Church where she attended. Judy was united in marriage to John Wayne Basham on August 23, 1965 in Jefferson County by Judge Schnaitter. This happy union of 56 years was blessed with a daughter, Teresa Ann, and a son, Brian Wayne. Judy enjoyed being a domestic engineer and caregiver to Allison Armstrong. She was involved in school activities at both Ryker's Ridge and Dupont Elementary. From 2000 on, Judy served as the office manager for the Jefferson County Youth Shelter for 17 years. She enjoyed being with her family, tending to her lawn and riding with her husband John on their motorcycle. She also liked working on word searches and puzzles, as well as going to flea markets and tractor shows. Judy loved watching her hummingbirds and cardinals. A devoted fan of The King of Rock n' Roll, she collected Elvis memorabilia, snowmen and of course cardinals. Judy fought a very unexpected battle with lung cancer, a tragic time in her life where she gained strength from her family. She asked that special thanks be given to her niece Debbie Bear Judge for her love and concern. Judy left this earthly home for her next adventure in her heavenly home on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 12:52 p.m. with her loving family at her side at her home on Ryker's Ridge.
