Michael was christened at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Portland, Oregon and later confirmed at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Portland, Oregon. He was a born again Christian and served the Lord faithfully.
Michael graduated from Wilson High School in 1968. He was a certified gemologist graduating from the Gemological Institute of America in Los Angeles. He worked with his father in Hawaii for Aigner's Gems International. Later he was certified by Sky Chef. At the time of his death, he was working at Amalie Arena for the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team.
