Jewell Kay Batterton, 85, of Viola, Arkansas passed from this life on Sunday, October 17, 2021, in Viola, Arkansas. Jewell was born May 28, 1936, to Loyd Rennie Batterton and Beulah Arenda (Emery) Batterton in Viola, Arkansas.

Jewell married Barbara Gene Schaufler on November 1, 1958, in Viola, Arkansas. Jewell worked as a farmer and carpenter most of his life and retired as maintenance supervisor at Viola Schools. He served his country in the United States Army. Jewell served on the Viola School Board for twelve years, on the board of the Moody Fire Department, and was a board member of the Mt. Calm Cemetery. Jewell was a man of honesty and integrity and loved his family very much. Jewell was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, friend, and was a member of the Viola First Baptist Church in Viola, Arkansas.

Jewell leaves to mourn his passing, wife, Barbara Batterton of Viola, Arkansas; two sons, Kelly Batterton and wife Dana of Salem, Arkansas and Mike Batterton and wife Duana of Viola, Arkansas; daughter, Teresa Walker and husband Scott of Elizabeth, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Luke Humphries (Sylvia), Kasey Humphries (Mallory), Derek Batterton, Tyler Batterton, Tate Batterton, Kohl Batterton, and Ryan Walker (Kandie); seven great grandchildren, Layla Humphries, Nora Humphries, Evie Humphries, Shepherd Humphries, Peyton Jewel Humphries, Birdie Walker, and Mabel Walker; three brothers, Jack Batterton of Viola, Arkansas, Jim Batterton of Viola, Arkansas, and Hoppy Batterton of Viola, Arkansas; two sisters, Janette Schlie and husband Gary of Independence, Missouri and Pam Burns and husband Larry of Viola, Arkansas; many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his son (Ronnie Kay Batterton), parents, three sisters (Wanda Guffey, Wilma Dean Brown, and Sue Billings), and brother (Smokey Batterton).

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at the Viola First Baptist Church in Viola, Arkansas with Bro. John Hodges and Bro. Craig Golden officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. until time of service on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at the Viola First Baptist Church in Viola, Arkansas. Interment will be in the Mt. Calm Cemetery in Viola, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Luke Humphries, Tyler Batterton, Ryan Walker, Kasey Humphries, Tate Batterton, Derek Batterton, and Kohl Batterton. Honorary pallbearers are all his nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Calm Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home, LLC in Salem, Arkansas.
