Gerhard Joseph "Gary" McAlister, 69, of Midlothian, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at his home. Gary was predeceased by his parents Hiram Stanley "Pat" and Anita Maria Bauer McAlister, by his aunt and uncle Maria Theresia Bauer and Gerald Edgar Allen, and by his cousin Kenneth "Dan" Sherer.
Gary was a member of St Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Bon Air, Virginia for 46 years. He was a graduate of John Tyler Community College and of Virginia Tech. He was an electrical engineer and spent his entire 40-year career at Dominion Energy, and he was a member of the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
Gary's favorite activities were visiting his daughters, playing with his grandchildren, teasing his sister, enjoying family get-togethers, playing golf at the Golden Eagle with his former co-workers, and trying out new recipes.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Hwy, South Chesterfield, VA 23834, with Fr. Ernest Bulinda officiating. Interment will follow in St. Ann Catholic Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to mass on Tuesday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU (Children's Hospital Foundation) in his memory. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
