Indian Wars Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Indian Wars as a Second Lieutenant in the 9th United States Regular Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery at Cuchillo Negro Mountains, New Mexico on August 16, 1881. His citation reads "Saved the life of a dismounted soldier, who was in imminent danger of being cut off, by alone galloping quickly to his assistance under heavy fire and escorting him to a place of safety, his horse being twice shot in this action." His Medal was issued on July 23, 1897. His grave marker does not state "Medal of Honor."
