Hezekiah Merriam born to Robert & Abigail [Cutler] Merriam, baptized 16 Apr 1708 at Lexington, Massachusetts. Settled at Oxford; was a physician and farmer, highly respected. Removed after 1792 to Auburn [formerly Ward], where he died in 1803. The town record says that he died "aged 99; left a widow, ae. 94, with whom he had lived 78 years." But the record of his birth and that of his oldest child indicate that the town clerk wrote "poetically."

Hezekiah married Prudence Peirce/Pierce, d/o Joseph Peirce/Pierce & Mary Warren, and together were parents to:
- Prudence Merriam b. 14 Aug 1731; m. 25 Jun 1751, Lemuel Edwards.
