Mr. Elbert Carter, 100, died early Monday (March 11, 2002) morning at Satilla Regional Medical Center following a short illness.

He was a native of Jeff Davis County but had resided in Waycross for the past 30 years. He was married to the late Addie Yawn Carter and was son of the late William Ellie Carter and Amanda Simmons Carter.

He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Astoria Baptist Church.

The survivors include four daughters, Mrs. J. C. (Eunice) Manning, Marcella Sindad and Mrs. Ray (Betty) Dowling all of Waycross; Mrs. J. W. (Patsy) Zeigler of Hickson, Tenn.; two sons, William Carroll Carter (wife Eleinor) of Waycross, Benny F. Carter of Pooler; two brothers, Cecil Carter of Boca Raton, Fla., William T. Carter of Starke, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (Mar. 13, 2002) in Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Yawn Cemetery in Jeff Davis County. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday night from 7 until 9 o'clock.
