Heckaman, seventy-six years old, a resident of this community most of her life, died at one o'clock Monday afternoon, June 7, in St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka after an illness of twenty-eight hours. She had spent the winter with here son, Melvin M. Balmer, and wife at College Park, Maryland, and had come to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Howard Meyer at Osceola April 1.
Mrs. Heckaman was a daughter of John and Matilda Renas and was born February 25, 1878, in South Bend. She was married to Fred F. Balmer in 1896. He died April 15, 1910, and October 15, 1913, she was married to Henry Heckaman, who died December 7, 1948. Surviving relatives are two sons, Melvin M. Balmer, at College Park, Maryland, and Raymond R. Balmer of Bremen; one daughter, Mrs. Howard Meyer of Osceola; one step daughter, Mrs. Iva Hochstetler of Constantine, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Staples of South Bend and Miss Almira Renas of Bremen.
Prayer services for the family will be held at ten o'clock at the Warner Funeral Home in Osceola, Friday Morning. The body will be at Grace Evangelical United Brethren church win Bremen from 12:00 noon until 2:00 Friday, when funeral services will be held. Rev. Phill Stephens, pastor of the Methodist church at Osceola, assisted by Rev. C. L. Hendrix, pastor of Grace church will officiate in the service. Burial will be in the Bremen cemetery.
