William M. Cobbett (AKA Corbet & Corbett) was the son of Thomas & Relief Cobbett. On April 7, 1859, he married Martha M. Noyes of Woburn, Mass., and would have a daughter and a son. He was living in Woburn and working as a shoemaker before enlisting and mustered into national service as a private in Co. M, 1st Regt. Mass. Heavy Arty., on March 3, 1862.

Cobbett was taken prisoner at Petersburg, Va., on June 22, 1864, and brought to Camp Sumter, Andersonville, Ga., where he died of diarrhoea on Sept. 4, 1864.
