LaVeta M. Morrison of Newton, passed from this life on Thursday morning, September 1, 2016, at Newton Village Health Care.

LaVeta M. Morrison,88, was born October 30, 1927, in rural Kellogg, the daughter of Henry James and Martha Christine (Andersen) Morrison. She graduated from the Newton Senior High, Class of 1946.

LaVeta was a loving daughter, sister and aunt, and a member of the First Baptist Church and the Beta Sigina Phi Sorority. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She enjoyed life, her family, all crafts, needle point, crochet, ceramics and painting. She was employed as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Chevrolet garage, WinPower Manufacturing and painted at Deaton Studio in Newton.

LaVeta is survived by her nieces and nephews, including Marcene Johnson (Gordy), Elaine Bartel (Bob), David Barr (Rhonda) and Carolyn Cook; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; and; and many friends

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Irene Barr; brother-in-law Chester Barr and a nephew Bob Barr.

A time of remembrance and celebration of life services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with a visitation time at 10:30am, just prior to the services. Burial will be at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.
