Alvin George Bahls was born the son of Albert and Bertha (Behrens) Bahls, July 3, 1921, in Guttenberg. He died Monday, December 3, 2007, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. Alvin received his education locally, served his country in the United States Army during World War II in India and China; he later drove truck and farmed for many years until his retirement. On May 25, 1948, he was united in marriage with LaVonne Geuder at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. He was active in church, serving on church councils. He enjoyed dancing, Lawrence Welk, Cubs, and spending time with family. He is survived by his wife LaVonne; one daughter, Rosemary (Leonard) Ohrt of Garnavillo; two sons, Ronald Bahls of Garnavillo and Richard (Karon) Bahls of Elkader; five grandchildren, Douglas (Missy) Bahls, Michael (Becky) Bahls, Gregory (Jessica) Bahls, Steven (Lori) Ohrt and Jill Ohrt; seven great-grandchildren, Zachary Ohrt, Bailey Ohrt, Aiden Bahls, Addisyn Bahls, Chloe Bahls, Cambrie Bahls, Kirstin Ohrt; one sister, Marie Putzier of Garnavillo; one brother, Alfred Bahls of La Crescent, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Violet Bahls of Rockford, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clarence (Kathleen) Bahls and Eldo Bahls, one sister, Laura (William) Glawe, one sister-in-law, Darlene Bahls and one brother-in-law, Orville Putzier.
