He worked for the Gold Coast Government Railways and was lost at sea November 7th-9th 1917 as a result of enemy action, aged 32. His brother,Lance Corporal Hugh Stanley Dilke of "A" Coy. 1st/12th Bn.;London Regiment (The Rangers) died in England on 21st March 1915, aged 26 of wounds received in action near Ypres. He is interred in the family grave at Sutton Road Cemetery, Southend-on-Sea, Essex and John is commemorated there.
