Cynthia McKenney
July 27, 1934 ~ September 11, 2012 (age 78)

Cynthia Bell McKenney, 78, went to be in the arms of her Lord and Savior on September 11, 2012, in her own home. Cynthia was born July 27, 1934, to parents James Scott and Gertie (Wright) Reasoner. She grew up outside Petoskey, attended the Joy Valley School, and graduated in 1952 from Petoskey High School with honors. Following high school she was trained as an X-Ray technician and worked at Little Traverse Hospital. On September 22, 1956, she married John Wesley McKenney; they have five children. Cynthia was a faithful member of the Epsilon United Methodist church where she was involved in serving the Lord and community throughout her lifetime. She loved meeting new people and always had something good to say about everyone. Cynthia served her community as a 4H sewing and gardening leader, and assisted many years in costume design for Bay View summer productions. She loved gardening, bird watching and collecting stones. She had a curious disposition and was always up for learning new things. Her parents and only sibling Wilma Graham preceded her in death. Cynthia is survived by her husband John Wesley McKenney, her children Scott (Cynthia), June (Kevin) Brott, Rev. Wayne (Sally), David (Elsie), Margo (Timothy) Terry, and nephews Jess and George (Kristie) Graham. Cynthia’s greatest love was for her Lord and her family. She was the ultimate grandma to her eleven grandchildren, Shawn (Anna), Travis, Curtis, Keith, Wayne, Ford, Porche, Michelle, John, Kayla (Eric) Nerby, Cody, and Margo’s cat Joan. She always had a plate of cookies or chocolate waiting for you when you walked through the door. Her smile was infectious and her lap was never too small for any child. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. A funeral service celebrating Cynthia’s life will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 10:30 am at the Epsilon United Methodist Church, services will be led by Pastor Vaughn Thurston-Cox. Visitation will be held at Stone Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6-8 pm. Interment will take place within Curtis Cemetery.
