Dies of Injuries

The flag at the Taft Union High School and Junior College flew at half mast Thursday Nov. 18 for Woodrow "Woody" Stone former star athlete of the school who died Tuesday night in a Bakersfield hospital following an automobile wreck one week ago.
Young Stone was injured Friday in an automobile accident in Bakersfield, when the car which he was driving hit a soft shoulder on the side of the road and overturned. He passed away Tuesday at the Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield.
Woodrow Stone was born in Licking, Missouri, August 12, 1916, and had been a resident of the West Side for several years. He was graduated from the Taft Union High School in 1935 and attended Taft Junior College for the year 1936.
He is survived by his mother Mrs. Barbara Stone; four sisters Misses Virginia, Edith and Elizabeth Stone all of Fellows; Mrs. June Snyder of Taft and a brother Carl of Santa Paula.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Taft Funeral Parlor, which would not accommodate half the crowd attending. The Rev. Robert A. Young officiated and interment followed in the West Side Cemetery.
Woodrow was a grandson of Mrs. C. D. Stone (Sarah Alice Stone) of near Licking and Mrs. L. C. Burnett (Louisa Catherine Burnett) of Santa Paula, Calif.
