Orvil Lee Brummett
May 30, 1932 - September 10, 2021

Orvil Lee Brummett, a longtime resident of Spearman, Texas, peacefully transitioned from this life to his eternal home on September 10, 2021 at the age of 89.

Orvil was born on May 30, 1932 in Perryton, Texas to Harry Lee and Ada Belle States Brummett. He grew up as an only child on the family farm in Ochiltree County. He attended Perryton schools, and in high school was Sophomore Class Favorite, Junior Class VP, and a proud 1949 PHS graduate. One of his prized possessions was a gold watch that he received for being an outstanding lineman on the 1948 Rangers football team. The true highlight of his high school years, however, was meeting the love of his life, Clauda Colene Schell. Orvil and Colene were married on March 11, 1951 in Perryton. They welcomed their daughter Clauda Dalynn in 1953 and their son Terril Lee in 1957.

Orvil earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from West Texas State College in Canyon in 1955. He then went on to study at Southwestern School of Pharmacy in Weatherford, OK and was honored to receive the Outstanding Student Award for the graduating class of 1959. This was the start of his lifelong career as a registered pharmacist and fulfilment of his passion for helping and serving others. He began his professional career at Slaton Rexall Drug and Modern Drug of Perryton.

After moving his young family to Spearman in 1962, he worked at Sheets Rexall Drug. He and Colene purchased the business in 1965 and it became Spearman Rexall Drug. The community relied upon Orvil's knowledge and expertise over the years, and he had a wonderful rapport with all his customers and employees. The Brummetts enjoyed 24 years of successful business before celebrating Orvil's retirement in 1989. After retirement, he served as a relief pharmacist at Hansford County Hospital and enjoyed RV travel, gardening, and spending time with family.

His hobbies through the years included fishing, stamp collecting, scrapbooking, wood carving, genealogy research, listening to country music, enjoying Spearman Lynx athletics and TCU and Oklahoma State football.

Orvil was deeply invested in Spearman, being active in numerous church and civic organizations, and was a highly-respected businessman and community citizen. He and Colene were members of the First Christian Church and thoroughly enjoyed leading the CYF group from 1965 to 1971, where they made a lasting impact on many area youth. Orvil was a faithful member of the Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce, serving as Chamber President in 1969. In 1975, he was instrumental in the fundraising efforts to make the Golden Spread Senior Citizen Center a reality. He was proud to be named the Chamber's Citizen of the Year in 1980 and honored to receive Spearman's Outstanding Jaycee award.

Orvil was a man of deep faith and a follower of Christ. He was devoted to his beloved wife, family, and pets. He was generous, fun-loving, smart, wise, and hard-working. He possessed a very sharp mind and a sharp wit to match. He could discuss deep philosophical topics one minute, then break into a joke the next. You always learned something new from spending time with him. He was a joy to be around and will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Dalynn, and stepfather Lawson Flowers.

Orvil is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Colene; son Terril (Liz) of Round Rock, TX; grandchildren Chad Johnson (Jacqueline) of Katy, TX, Chase Johnson (Shalaun) of Kansas City, MO, Alexa Brummett of Austin, TX and Evan Brummett of Round Rock, TX; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 2:00pm at the First Christian Church of Spearman, with Sharalyn Larsen officiating and Brenton Haworth and Gary Ellsworth assisting. Arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude for the caring professionalism and comforting compassion of the Hansford County Hospital and Hospice staff and the caregiving "angels" who provided 24-hour care in their home.

Those wishing to honor Orvil's memory may make a memorial to First Christian Church (PO Box 637, Spearman, TX 79081), Hansford Hospice (712 S. Roland St., Spearman, TX 79081) or the charity of their choice.
