Precious Nadene Fillmore was born October 31, 1919 in Crescent, Logan County, Oklahoma; one of three children born to the farm family of Arthur Francis Fillmore and Lela (Wilson) Fillmore. She was named after a prominent woman in Crescent named Precious Williams. Nadene began working for S.H. Kress & Company while she was still in high school. She married Donald Douglas Daves (aka Johny) on February 1, 1941. She then worked in the long distance telephone department at the telephone company for 25 years until her retirement. It was a wonderful job that she really enjoyed. Johny and Nadene were blessed with one daughter and a grandson. They were avid rose growers. They were members of both the American and Oklahoma Rose Society and served nationally as consulting rosarians and judges. The roses they grew won the "Queen of Roses" many times – that is the highest distinction any rose grower can achieve. Johny and Nadene were avid fans of Byron Berline, a nationally known versatile fiddle player who played country, old time, Cajun, ragtime, blue grass and rock. They considered him a dear friend and traveled all over the country to hear him play. Nadene said "If there's a song written, Byron can play it". Nadene celebrated her 100th birthday on October 31 2019 and was interviewed by the Guthrie News Leader. At that time she stated "Guthrie is the best place on Earth".
Precious Nadene (Fillmore) Daves was inducted into the CENTENARIANS OF OKLAHOMA HALL OF FAME on January 20, 2020. She attributed her long life to trusting in God, eating well and overall maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Of her life she said: "We've been everywhere and done everything". Nadene lived just a few days short of 102 years. Her centenarian file will be sent to the Oklahoma Historical Society to become a permanent part of Oklahoma History.
