Galen Thomas Gann unexpectedly but peacefully slipped away from this life on September 2, 2021, to be eternally reunited with his parents and siblings. He was 80 years old.

Galen was born in Graham, Young County, Texas, on January 9, 1941, the third child of William Riley Gann and Dollie Pearl (Thomas) Gann. Soon after he was born, the family removed to Tarrant County, Texas, where he grew to adulthood. By the time of his graduation from Castleberry High School, the very closely-knit Gann family lived on Black Oak Lane in the River Oaks area of Fort Worth; and the Northcentral Texas area remained synonymous with "home" during his entire journey through life; however, at the conclusion of that journey, Galen and his beloved pet dog, Nena, were residents of Denton, Texas, near his best friend, Diana. and her pet, Honeybear.

Galen was a normal teenager of the late 50's & early 60's with an interest, perhaps even a passion, for cars … particularly fast cars, drag racing, motorcycles, hunting & fishing … especially with Dean and Gordon, his two older brothers, with whom he shared those particular interests; but he was not known for participation in organized athletics. Galen's parents owned a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, 2-door hardtop, black with a white lid … a beautiful car … and, for its time, it was "quick" with Galen at the wheel … and no adult supervision. That vehicle became very recognizable in local hangouts and drag strips; and Galen was the envy of his many young friends.

Shortly after graduation from Castleberry HS, Galen enlisted in the United States Navy; and, in 1960 following basic training, he was assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk, a newly constructed aircraft carrier, as an AT (Aviation electronics technician). Galen was a member of the ships company when the Kitty Hawk was commissioned on April 29, 1961; therefore, he would have participated in that ceremony. Galen remained very proud of his military service (rightfully so); and he remained a steadfast supporter of veterans and active members in the armed forces throughout his life.

As a young man, Galen developed more interests besides cars, racing, motorcycles, hunting & fishing. For instance, he took up recreational scuba diving, he became a licensed Ham radio operator, for a period of time he was a storm chaser; and he endeavored to improve himself intellectually while studying physical science in the Texas A&M University system. Galen also engaged in extensive genealogical research into his "Gann" family roots; therefore, he had the means and opportunity to personally connect with a number of more distant relatives & "cousins" during that process.

Later in life, Galen joined a Facebook Group dedicated to Castleberry HS Graduates from 1959-1960-1961; and he connected or reconnected with many friends and acquaintances from his own personal history. Galen became a regular attendee to periodic class reunions with the Group, the most recent of which was in June, 2021.

Galen lived life his way; and he will surely be remembered fondly by those whom he befriended during his journey.

In addition to his parents, Galen was preceded in death by his two brothers, William Gordon & Richard Dean; his sister, Sandra Annett; and his beloved wife of 26 years, the former Sherry Jean Jeter.

Galen is survived by a daughter, Katilyn; a daughter, Gaylinn Cheriee; a son, Cyd Riley; a granddaughter, Kylee; a grandson, Truece; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In accordance with his expressed wishes, Galen's mortal remains are reported to have been placed at the Veale Creek Cemetery near Graham, Texas, close to the gravesites of his brothers, Wm Gordon & Richard Dean, as well as a host of other Gann relatives
