US Navy Veteran (1891-1901), Spanish American War. During the Spanish American War he was a musician first class on USFS New York, flagship of Admiral William Sampson.

A native of Germany, he emigrated to the US in 1891 and enlisted in the Navy that year. He was discharged on September 18, 1901. He was married to Regina and worked as a musician until his death from cancer at age 52 in 1914.
