COTTAGE GROVE - The funeral will be held Dec. 1 for M.L. "Roy" Wells of Cottage Grove, who died Nov. 25 of lung cancer. He was 84.
Wells was born July 23, 1920, in Colton, to William and Myra Murphy Wells. He married Dorothy Irene Glade on Sept. 21, 1940, in Vancouver, Wash.
He attended Molalla High School. He served in the Army in World War II from 1944 to 1946, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He worked as an owner and operator of a logging truck.
Wells also had lived in Tillamook and Gold Beach before moving to Cottage Grove. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and travel.
He belonged to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 1904, and received the Elk of the Year award in 1997-98. He also belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sonja Michaelis of Cottage Grove and Treva Majors of Boise, Idaho; four sisters, Ruby Barnes of Molalla, Myra Ferris of Portland, Mable Perkins of Astoria and Judith McDaniel of Mulino; a brother, Les Wells of Oregon City; and seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Wednesday's service will be held at 1 p.m. in Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. Inurnment will be in Sunset Heights Memorial Gardens in Tillamook. Memorial contributions may be made to Cottage Grove Elks Lodge 1904.
