Opal Lavern Salmons, age 86, of Fulton, Missouri passed away on Monday, October 4, 2021 at University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.

Opal was born September 5, 1935, in Dixie, Missouri, the daughter of William and Maude (Richardson) Butcher. On November 17, 1951, in Fulton, Missouri, Opal was married to Richard W. Salmons. Richard preceded her in death on October 5, 2013.

Opal was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She worked as a security guard at Fulton State Hospital until her retirement May 1, 1995.

After retirement she enjoyed going to garage sales and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Surviviors include one daughter, Ellen Pedergrass of Fulton, Missouri; one son, Scott Salmons (Karla) of Silex, Missouri; sister-in-law, Thelma Morris (Kenny); nine grandchildren, Tyler Salmons (Sheila), Amy Balassone (Rick), Crystal Luna )Dwight), Brandon Salmons (Lindsey), Taylor Kairos (James), Heather Drum (Dylan), Hunter Salmons, Annika Salmons and Tucker Salmons; twenty great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Opal was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Salmons and Michael Salmons; son-in-law, Emmett Pendergrass; two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 6, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm at Debo Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 10:00am at the funeral home with Reverend Walter Lockhart officiating. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Mount Carmel Cemetery.
