William Earl Abbott, 91 of Belpre, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Camden - Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born December 16, 1913 on the family farm on Abbott Hill in Belpre one of five children of the late William and Lucy Reese Abbott.

He graduated from Belpre High School and attended Indiana University. As a young man, he enjoyed flying and had his pilot's license.He was a machinist by trade and worked for O'Ames for 44 years in the Machine Shop. Following retirement he worked for Belpre Township and assisted others by using his machinist skills to repair engines and cars. He was a member of the Mid Ohio Valley Wide Trackers Car Club and enjoyed his 1967 GTO and other old cars. He was a member of the Belpre Church of Christ wherehe had served as a past deacon of the church.

Earl is survived by his wife of 68 years Virginia Eaton Abbott, two daughters Wanda Childress and her husband John of Belpre, Carolyn Bedilion of Marietta and one son William "Buzz" Abbott and his wife Rebecca of Belpre. five grandchildren BobbyBedilion, Kelly Loscar and husband John, Suzanne Abbott, Adam Abbott and Aaron Abbott, great granddaughter Maggie Loscar, sister Edna Diffenbaugh and her husband Bruce, sister-in-law Kathryn Wines several nieces and nephews and several close friends including Dean Archer, Pearl Grubb, Richard Grimm and others too numerous to mention and his faithful cat "Whitey".

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by two brothers Wilbur and Owen Abbott and one sister Augusta Abbott.

Services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre with Ron Laughery officiating. Burial will be at Rockland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 - 4 and 6 -8 on Friday and prior to the service on Saturday.
