C/MSGT USAF (retired) Danny Ronald Johnston, of Cartersville, Georgia, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

"The Chief," as he was affectionately known, was born in Ware Shoals, SC, to the late Carrie B. and Burton Johnston. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Jane Isabel Godfrey Johnston; and his two brothers, Bob and Deanne Johnston of South Carolina.

He is survived by two children: Nancy Brant (Jeffrey) of Cartersville, Georgia; and Charles Ronald Johnston (Kathleen) of LaVista, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Heather Gravley (Corky); Melodee Brant; Amanda Tadajewski (Anthony); Scott Johnston (Ashley); Dan Johnston (Kylee); and Marlowe Cross (Casey); and seven great-grandchildren: Alec Barger (Kelsey); Grace Hunter; Loretta Johnston; Macy Johnston; Jett Johnston; Mack Johnston; and Lily Jayne Cross. He is also survived by a multitude of loving family and friends.

Chief Johnston served with honor in the United States Air Force for 32 years, ending his career as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama. Military service was more than just a job and he was proud to serve and defend his country. His military travels took him to Japan, Korea, Nebraska, Texas, South Carolina, and Omaha, Nebraska where he was an integral part of the Strategic Air Command. His motto was, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going."

After leaving the military, he earned a Bachelor's degree in History from Troy State University and went on to work for the Veteran's Administration (Montgomery, Alabama) before moving to Cartersville to become the business manager for the Allatoona Eye Institute.

Upon retirement, Chief Johnston enjoyed traveling with, or just being with, his family and friends, having a good steak dinner, listening to gospel and country music, and watching game shows. Technology was his nemesis and "Alicia" (Alexa) will miss him!

Visitation will be at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home, Cartersville, Georgia, from 2-5pm on Sunday, October 3, 2021. Masks will be required.

Interment will be a private family service at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia.
