Married Elster Wallace Aug. 5, 1946 in Pike Co., Ky. He was 23 & she was 14

Gloria was a loving wife, dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and a loyal friend. She had a wit with the light of humor sparkling in her eyes. Gloria lived a full life of family, work, and travel. Born in Pike County in Eastern Kentucky on the family farm, she learned from her mother the necessary skills of gardening, cooking, sewing and maintaining a household. From her father she learned to appreciate the land and its bounty, from orchards and berry patches, to grain fields for animals and the family. Hard work and sustainability were expectations for this coal miner's daughter.

As a young bride to Elster Wallace, she learned to travel across the country for work. They spent their early years in Illinois and Wisconsin, moved to Tampa, FL, and then settled with their young family in Orrville, Ohio. There were other years spent in Oregon and Tucson, Arizona, before she eventually came home to Kentucky.

She worked at "Regal China" in IL, spent many years at "J.M. Smucker Company" in Orrville, OH, and was the manager for "Gems by Gloria" in Tucson, AZ. Her interests were varied as was her work. A woman of strong spiritual faith and commitment to serving in missions, this was reflected in her work with troubled youth including "Youth for Truth", "Spring Board" and "Teen Challenge". She also worked with Native Americans from the "Traditional Indian Alliance" of Tuscon, AZ. She spent dedicated time in northern AZ aiding and supporting Native Americans on reservations. She was up to any challenge.

After the death of her second spouse, Norman Prater, she moved from Prestonsburg to Lexington, KY, to live closer to her daughter, Deborah Wallace. She has lived the past seventeen years in Christian Towers in Lexington and also became a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Gloria is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Andrew J. and Angie (Standifur Crum) Baker, her son, Corneil, her spouses Elster Wallace and Norman Prater, and her siblings: William "Bill" Crum, Edward Crum, Melissa Crum, Mary Crum Little, Otis Baker, Juanita Baker Potter, Emogene Baker Hamilton, Andrew Baker,Jr., Thelmarie Baker, Louella Baker Salyer, Alene Baker Wallace, Anna Rae Baker Lashley and Clarence George Baker.

Remembering her in love is her son, Mark Wallace (Laurie) of Tucson, AZ and her daughter, Deborah Wallace of Lexington, KY. She leaves grandchildren, Alisha Wallace of Frankfort, KY, Shannon Wallace (David Conley) of Winchester, KY, Marcus Wallace of Tucson, AZ, and Kevin Thompson of Clay City, KY. She leaves her greatgrandchildren, Gabby and Victor Rocha of Tucson, AZ, Kira Conley of Winchester, KY, and Alexander Covey of Frankfort, KY.
