Bernard enjoyed being an active member of SAR and Kiwanis. After his retirement from the Student Loan Authority, Bernard worked for the Gann Museum and Ashby Funeral Home in Benton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 55 years, Dorris R. Barber; and his infant daughter, Melanie Anne.
Bernard is survived by his daughters, Donna (Rolan) King and Glynis (Scott) Steele; grandchildren, Keli (Chris) Germann, Robyn (Brad) Cunningham, Melissa (Tim) Henry, and Steven King; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife of 12 years, Ruby Barber; step-children, Stanley (Brenda) Teeter and Vicki (Jeff) Langley; step-grandchildren, Brian (Haley Rose) Teeter, Adam Langley, and Sarah Langley; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Due to COVID-19, there will be a family graveside service at Rosemont Cemetery in Benton on Wednesday, September 29 at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Rick Grant will be officiating.
