Yosef Chaim Paley, a beloved son and grandson, a cherished student and devoted friend, passed away on Saturday night, March 10, 2001. Yosef, known as Yossi, was born on April 14, 1988 and was just a few weeks from his thirteenth birthday. He was first diagnosed with leukemia three and a half years ago. Yossi underwent a variety of treatments to battle his illness, yet never stopped radiating care and kindness to all around him. Yossi's warmth and kind personality made his loss felt deeply by all who were honored to know him. He was a seventh grade student at the Rudlin Torah Academy, which he attended since kindergarten. All Yossi's teachers were impressed with his exceptional character, his warmth, sincerity, and sweet personality. He will be missed by the students, teachers and parents of his school. Tens of thousands of people were personally connected to Yossi's plight through the medium of the Internet. Yossi had a website that continually updated his condition, either once, twice or three times each day. These updates written by Yossi's mother, Leah, and father, Michoel, touched many others with the honest and courageous way these parents dealt with Yossi's ordeal. Many, many words of encouragement were shared that inspired the many readers of Yossi's website. People of all faiths joined the Paley family in praying for Yossi's recovery. Prayer meetings, good deeds and acts of kindness were initiated in Yossi's merit. All these various actions will continue to bolster the spirits of the Paley family during this trying time. Yossi is survived by his parents, Leah and Michoel; his siblings, Goldie, Shauly, Chani, and Srulie; his grandparents, Marvin and Ilene Paley, Franklin Odel, and Shaina and Efraim Warshawsky. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Keneseth Beth Israel, 6300 Patterson Ave. Interment Sir Moses Montifiore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the Paley's are requesting donations either to the Rudlin Torah Academy's Boys High School Fund, which can be mailed to 6801 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23226 or to Chai Lifeline, an organization which aids Jewish families experiencing a child stricken with cancer. The Chai Lifeline toll free number is 1-877-CHAI-LIFE. May G-d comfort the Paley family in the midst of the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
