Born March 5, 1924 in Nashville, TN. Died Thursday, November 22, 2007. Preceded in death by parents, Charles Madison Sarratt and Mary Dora Houston Sarratt, and by first wife, Martha Davis Sarratt. Survived by children, Marianne Denis Sarratt Brock (Jerry) of Johnson City, TN, Madison Houston Sarratt, Jr. (Laura) of Nashville, Marday Sarratt Johnson (Gene) of Kingsport, TN and Robert Lipscomb Sarratt (Sandra), Nashville. Also grandchildren, Robert Jay Yeiser, Jr. (Heather) of Albany, GA, William Houston Yeiser (Kelly) of Asheville, NC, Mary Sarratt Perkins (Jay) of Nashville, Melissa Sarratt Beasley (Bill) of Franklin, Olivia Sarratt McCarthy (Daniel) of Franklin, Haley Whitson Strouth (Adam) of Nashville, Martha Jane Sarratt, Nashville, and Houston Findlay Sarratt, Nashville. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dorothy Waters Sarratt; stepchildren, Elaine Lee Johnston (Richmond) of High Falls, NY, Martha Houston Lee of Nashville, Susan Norfleet Lee of Kingston, NY, and Frank Hackney Lee (Arlye) of New York City; great grandchildren, William Gabriel Beasley IV, Martha Davis Beasley, Cady Madison Beasley, Madeline Elsie McCarthy, Jacob Houston Sarratt, and Mary Adelaide Yeiser; step grandchildren, Brennan Lee Mulligan, New York City, Frank Lee Ashmun and Spencer Ashmun, Nashville, Dr. Matthew Brock, Chattanooga, Kathleen Brock, Pensacola, FL, and Meredith Hunter Johnson, Kingsport, TN. Dr. Sarratt graduated from West End High School and received his B.S. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1944. He was awarded his M.D. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1947, and was chief resident from 1953-1954. In May, 1958 he became a Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a clinical professor at Vanderbilt University Medical School. A member of numerous specialty societies, Dr. Sarratt has served as a board member of the OBGYN Society of Nashville and Middle Tennessee, and was founding President of the Lonnie Burnett Vanderbilt OBGYN Society. He was former Chief of Surgery at Parkview, now Centennial, Hospital. He has served on hospital Medical Boards at Vanderbilt and Parkview. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, the Tennessee Medical Association, and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Sarratt served in the United States Navy Medical Corps during the Korean War, returning to Nashville after three years, and resuming his career in private practice until 1998. During 4 12 decades of medical practice he contributed much to the community, including serving in polio clinics and cancer clinics. He earned the love and respect of his staff and his patients, regarding them as part of his extended family and treated them as such. In June, 1998, Dr. Sarratt was presented the 2nd annual Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Lonnie S. Barrett OBGYN Society. Vanderbilt University knows Dr. Sarratt as a devoted and ardent fan of the Commodores. Visitation will be at St. George's Episcopal Church on Monday, November 26 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to the service at 1 p.m. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Robert Jay Yeiser, Jr., William Houston Yeiser, George Matthew Brock, Brennan Lee Mulligan, Frank Lee Ashmun, R. Spencer Ashmun, and Houston Findlay Sarratt. Honorary Pallbearers are P.D.
