Katherine A. Abbott, 85, of Sparta, died Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Sparta. She was born on March 8, 1936, in Black River Falls, WI, to Harold and Arvilla (Lovell) Larson.
Katherine graduated from Melrose High School in 1954. She graduated from Wisconsin Technical School as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked the next 40 years at St. Mary's Hospital and Gunderson Lutheran Health System, retiring from Gunderson at the age of 70. She volunteered for soup suppers, the food pantry, and ARC. She was a member of Sparta Methodist Church.
Katherine married John H. Abbott on November 5, 1954 in Key West, FL. She enjoyed being a Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader, organizing meetings and trips, and helping youngsters get their badges. She loved to travel, shop, spending time in Hatfield, and family picnics and gatherings. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. She liked to watch old westerns, listening to polka music, Classic Country and Western and Christian Music.
Katherine is survived by her husband of 66 years, John Abbott of Sparta; sons,... daughter,... She is further survived by 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Arvilla Larson; a son, Jeff Abbott; a daughter in law, Cherly Abbott: a granddaughter; several brothers and sisters in laws; nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at United Methodist Church, Sparta, with Reverend Loretta Waughtal officiating. Burial will be in Cataract Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Cataract United Methodist Church.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the church. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
