Cecilie Flora Kwiat was born Nov. 1, 1939 in Calgary, AB the daughter of George and Esther Kwiat. Cecilie died on Saturday Feb. 15, 2014 in Didsbury, AB surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Patti Hill and grandson Sean Cook; her sister Ann (Ken Gledhill), brother Larry Kwiat and her nieces and nephews – Joanne (Gledhill) Cabrera, Mike Gledhill, Bill Gledhill (Tracy), Janet Gledhill, Christian Baker, Jennifer (Baker) Vallee and great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents George and Esther Kwiat and sister Gerda (Kwiat) Baker.

Cecilie lived with an open heart, an inquisitive mind and an appreciation of beauty. Her journey through life was inspired by the words of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, "My religion is kindness".

Cecilie was a poet, traveler, scholar, teacher, healer and friend. Her wisdom and generosity will be deeply missed by her family, students, friends and fellow travelers.

Cecilie's family and friends wish to thank Dr. Karen Brunner and the staff at the Didsbury Hospital for their compassionate care and support during her final days.

A Celebration of Cecilie's Life will be held on Sunday Feb. 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Didsbury Elks Hall (1914 – 20 Street, Didsbury). In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the David Suzuki Foundation (219 – 2211 West 4th Ave., Vancouver, BC V6K 4S2). Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Didsbury entrusted with arrangements.
