Anthony J. Maurer, 73, of 2522 Crosscreek Dr., and a former long time summer resident of Crystal Lake, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 9, 1997 at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Sheboygan, Aug. 24, 1924, to the late Anton and Esther (Degenhardt) Maurer. He graduated from Holy Name School and North High School.
Tony graduated with honors from the Dale Carnegie Program, was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking, attended the University of North Carolina and graduated from Truax Field Aircraft Radio School in Madison.
He enlisted and served as a Sargent in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Radio and Gunnery Instructor for four years during World War II.
In 1945, he married Marion Knuth at Holy Name Catholic Church.
After his discharge from the Air Corps in 1946, he was Bank Manager at the former North Side State Bank for 18 ½ years. He then became Production Control Manager at Wigwam Mills for 23 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a founding member of Am-vets Post 18 and served as its first secretary. He was a former member of Lakeshore Kiwanis Club, formerly served as treasurer of Sheboygan County Historical Society and was a past member of Wisconsin Archiological Society.
Tony is survived by his wife, Marion; three sons, John of Plymouth, Michael of Sheboygan and Dale of Carlisle, Ohio; three grandsons; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; three sisters, Marjorie (Bob) Kane of Florida, Georgiana (Henry) Ewald and Joan (Carl) Willhoefer all of Sheboygan; three brothers, Jack (Maxine) Maurer of Sheboygan, Eugene Maurer of California and Robert (Betty) Maurer of Sheboygan.
Tony was preceded in death by a son, James Maurer in 1983 and a sister, Marion in 1939.
A funeral service for Tony will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Ballhorn Funeral Chapels. Mary Fleischman, Director of Spiritual Development at St. Nicholas Hospital, will officiate.
Friends may call at Ballhorns on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service, Entombment will take place In the Garden Terrace Mausoleum. Memorial contributions In Tony's memory will be appreciated for Community Home Nursing and Hospice,
